President Steven J. Corliss
Prior to forming Corliss Utility Advisors LLC , Steven J. Corliss spent 13.5 years as the Energy Information Services Director of The E Group, a non-regulated, wholly owned subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The E Group provided energy management and consulting services to many clients including many Fortune 500 companies. Prior to being sold , The E Group had managed an annual energy spend of $1.4 billion for our clients.
Steve has over 34 years in the electric utility business focusing on the needs of commercial and industrial customers. Steve is responsible for developing effective programs that help commercial and industrial customers better understand their utility costs by providing tools and services that convert data into information upon which to make business decisions.
The Energy Information Services group under Steve's leadership has returned impressive results. The Energy Information Services group manages over 1.3 million bill payment transactions a year. The exception auditing practice where we are looking for potential vendor billing errors is bringing a return of 150% of results over fees charged. The historical bill audit practice of the Energy Information Services group has audited over 11,000 accounts over the last two years finding just under $6 Million dollars in audit benefits in rate changes, billing errors, sales tax exemptions, and cash security deposit refunds. This represents a return of over 400% for the audit customers.
Steve has developed a national reputation in utility bill auditing services and has presented papers at numerous national conferences including the prestigious Distributech DADSM conference. His presentations focus on a practical, cost-effective approach that implements utility management programs in a focused, targeted structure that brings maximum results to the customer. This approach is the foundation upon which the FirstEnergy Solutions Energy Consulting team bases its utility information services program. Steve also had published in August of 2000 an article on managing utility costs in Energy User News.
Steve graduated from Oregon State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in marketing. He has served as President of the Forest Products Society, served as a board member of the American Institute of Plant Engineers, and as President of the Dallas Kiwanis Club.
